During the Empire (1805 – 1815) Napoleon’s Grande Armee marched and fought its way back and forth across Europe. All the French hussar regiments gathered enviable battle records during those ten years of uninterrupted campaigning, but at terrible cost. Some regiments were used up and rebuilt three or four times over.
Whether marching through a frozen forest in Russia or across the arid Spanish plains, our hussar regiments fought with exceptional courage and honor. The battle records which follow only include “major actions” and are nowhere near complete if one considers the hundreds of skirmishes, affairs of outposts, etc. fought over those ten years. “Honneur et Valeur.” Their exploits will never be forgotten…
